Mason's Bread Board

Method

Mason's Bread Board

1

Prepare the bread

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the loaf on a slight diagonal into 1-inch slices, leaving the bottom attached if you prefer pull-apart presentation or fully slice for individual pieces.

2

Warm the bread: arrange slices on a baking sheet and warm in the oven 5–7 minutes until just warmed and slightly crisp at edges. For a crispier surface, place under a broiler for 1–2 minutes while watching carefully.

3

Transfer warm bread to a wooden board or serving platter. Provide a butter knife for each flavored butter and small bowls for dipping oil and balsamic.

Flavoured Butters (choose one or prepare multiple)

4

Garlic & Parsley Butter

In a small bowl, combine 0.25 cups softened unsalted butter, 1 tsp finely grated garlic (about 1 clove), 1 tbsp chopped parsley, and a pinch (about 1/8 tsp) of flaky sea salt. Mix until smooth and homogeneous. Shape into a log on plastic wrap and chill 20 minutes if making ahead, or serve at room temperature for easy spreading.

5

Lemon Honey Butter

Combine 0.25 cups softened butter with 1 tsp lemon zest and 1 tsp honey. Whisk until airy. Taste and adjust honey or lemon. Serve in a small ramekin and sprinkle lightly with sea salt.

6

Rosemary & Smoked Paprika Butter

Mix 0.25 cups softened butter with 1 tsp finely chopped fresh rosemary and 0.5 tsp smoked paprika. Stir until even. Transfer to a small bowl and garnish with a rosemary sprig.

7

Finishing: If offering a plain butter option, whip 0.5 cups unsalted butter with 0.5 tsp sea salt flakes until light. Place each butter variety on the board with a label or small spoon.

8

Classic Olive Oil & Balsamic Dip

In a shallow bowl or small plate, pour 0.5 cups extra-virgin olive oil. Add 2 tbs balsamic vinegar in the center so it forms a pool. Season with 0.5 tsp flaky sea salt and 0.25 tsp freshly ground black pepper. Let sit 5 minutes so flavors marry.

9

Spiced Variation

For a spicy kick, stir in 0.25 tsp crushed red pepper flakes. For an umami lift, sprinkle 2 tsp grated Parmesan or pecorino on top. Drizzle an extra 1 tbs balsamic if you prefer a sweeter, tangier profile.

10

If you prefer a balsamic reduction: place 3 tbs balsamic in a small saucepan over medium heat, simmer until reduced by half and syrupy (about 6–8 minutes). Cool slightly and drizzle over or mix into the olive oil as desired.

Garnishes & Serving

11

Arrange the warmed bread, ramekins of flavored butters, and the olive oil & balsamic bowl on the board. Scatter 6 basil leaves or microgreens around for color and aroma. Sprinkle 1 tsp toasted seeds or nuts over the oil if using.

12

Serve immediately while bread is warm. Encourage diners to spread flavored butter or dip bread in the oil and balsamic. Replenish warm bread as needed.
