Calamari

Method

Preparing the Calamari

1

Prepare the Calamari

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Mix well.

2

Coat the Calamari

Dip each calamari ring into the beaten eggs, allowing excess to drip off, then coat it in the flour mixture. Shake off any extra flour and set aside on a plate.

3

Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

4

Fry the Calamari

Carefully place a few calamari rings into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 1-2 minutes until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove and drain on paper towels.

Making the Orange Sauce

5

Mix the Sauce Ingredients

In a small saucepan, combine the fresh orange juice, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, grated ginger, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes. Stir well.

6

Thicken the Sauce

In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Add this to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

Serving

7

Serve the Calamari

Arrange the fried calamari on a serving platter and drizzle with the orange sauce. Serve immediately with extra sauce on the side for dipping.
