Garlic Bread

Method

Garlic Bread

  1. 1

    Preheat

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Position a rack in the middle of the oven.

  2. 2

Slice the baguette into 3 equal thick slices, about 1-1.25 inches each, so you end up with three large pieces suitable for starters.

  3. 3

In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, grated Parmesan, salt, and black pepper. Mix until smooth and evenly combined. If the butter is very soft, stir in 1 teaspoon olive oil to loosen the spread slightly.

  4. 4

Spread a generous layer (about 1.5–2 tbs) of the garlic butter mixture evenly across the cut surface of each of the three bread slices, making sure to cover edges for good flavor.

  5. 5

Place the buttered bread slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or foil, buttered side up. Bake in the preheated oven for 6–8 minutes, until the butter has melted and the edges begin to turn golden.

Assembly & Cheese Topping

  1. 6

Remove the partially baked garlic bread from the oven. Increase oven temperature to 425°F (220°C) if your oven heats unevenly — higher heat helps the cheese to melt and brown lightly.

  2. 7

Evenly distribute the shredded or sliced fresh mozzarella across the three garlic bread slices, piling so each slice has generous coverage (about 2/3 cup per slice). Sprinkle the dry Italian seasoning over the cheese and a light dusting of red pepper flakes if using.

  3. 8

Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for an additional 5–7 minutes, or until the mozzarella is fully melted, bubbling, and starting to develop light golden spots. For a more browned top, switch the oven to broil on high for 30–60 seconds while watching very closely to avoid burning.

  4. 9

Remove from oven and let rest for 1–2 minutes so the cheese sets slightly and is easier to slice and serve.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 10

If desired, sprinkle the extra grated Parmesan over the melted cheese and scatter the sliced fresh basil leaves across the tops for color and a fresh aroma.

  2. 11

Slice each of the three pieces into 2–3 portions if serving multiple people as starters. Serve hot on a platter alongside marinara or a dipping sauce of your choice.
