French Toast

Side (choose bacon or sausage)

Method

Prepare Toppings & Sides

1

Slice strawberries

Hull and slice the strawberries into thin slices. Reserve in a small bowl and set aside at room temperature so they release a little juice.

2

Heat oven for bacon (optional)

If cooking bacon in the oven, preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with foil. Arrange bacon in a single layer. Bake 12–15 minutes for medium crispness. Remove and drain on paper towels. If using sausage links, cook them in a skillet (see next step).

3

Cook sausage (if chosen)

Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add sausage links and cook 10–12 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through (internal temp 160°F/71°C). Transfer to a plate and keep warm.

Make French Toast Batter

4

In a shallow dish wide enough to hold a slice of bread (a pie plate works well), whisk together eggs, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until blended and slightly frothy.

Cook French Toast

5

Place a large nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon unsalted butter and let it melt, coating the surface.

6

Working one or two slices at a time (depending on pan size), submerge a slice of bread in the egg mixture for 5–8 seconds per side, allowing it to soak but not become falling-apart soggy. Lift and let excess drip back into the dish.

7

Place the soaked bread onto the hot skillet. Cook 2–3 minutes on the first side until golden brown and set, then flip and cook another 1.5–2 minutes until golden and cooked through. Add more butter as needed and repeat with remaining slices. Keep finished slices on a plate in a low oven (200°F/95°C) to stay warm while you finish.

Assemble & Serve

8

Stack the three French toast slices slightly overlapping on a kids' plate.

9

Top the stack with a generous tablespoon or two of whipped cream (about 2–3 tbs for a kid's portion). Arrange the sliced strawberries on and around the stack.

10

If desired, drizzle up to 2 tablespoons maple syrup over the toast and berries. Lightly dust with powdered sugar if using.

11

Place the cooked bacon strips or sausage links on the side. Serve immediately while warm.
