Syrup Base
Spice & Fruit Notes
Carbonation & Finish
Method
Syrup Base
Combine base flavors
In a small pitcher or mixing glass, combine 1 cup cola-flavored soda, 1 tablespoon cherry syrup (or grenadine), 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (or 1/2 tablespoon amaretto syrup), 1/2 teaspoon vanilla syrup (or extract), and 1 tablespoon cola concentrate if using. Stir gently to mix. The cola soda provides the major body while the concentrated additions build the signature Dr Pepper profile.
Spice & Fruit Notes
Add deeper fruit and spice components
To the base mixture, add 1 teaspoon prune syrup or prune juice, 1 teaspoon black cherry juice or cordial, 1/4 teaspoon light molasses, and 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice. Add a pinch each of ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and ground clove. Stir thoroughly for 20–30 seconds until uniform. Taste and adjust: add a hair more cherry syrup for fruitiness, or a touch more molasses for deeper caramel notes. The spices should be subtle — they add complexity, not heat.
Carbonation & Finish
Finish and serve
Fill a glass with about 1 cup of ice. Pour the syrup mixture over the ice. Top slowly with 1/2 cup chilled seltzer or club soda to preserve carbonation and adjust fizz to taste. Stir gently once to combine. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and optional lemon wheel. Serve immediately chilled.
