Method
Cooking Pasta
- 1
Boil the Water
In a large pot, bring 4 liters of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water.
- 2
Cook the Spaghetti
Once the water is boiling, add 400g of spaghetti. Cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes until al dente.
- 3
Drain the Pasta
Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside. Do not rinse, as you want the pasta to keep some of its starch.
Making Bolognese Sauce
- 4
Sauté the Vegetables
In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 medium onion (chopped), 1 medium carrot (chopped), 1 stalk of celery (chopped), and 3 cloves of garlic (minced). Sauté until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
- 5
Brown the Meat
Add 500g of ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
- 6
Add the Sauce Ingredients
Stir in 400g of canned tomatoes, 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, and 100ml of red wine. Add 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper. Mix well.
- 7
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
- 8
Serve the Dish
Serve the spaghetti topped with the Bolognese sauce. Grate 50g of Parmesan cheese over the top, if desired.
