Killer Cola Cocktail

   Prepare glass and ice

   Chill a highball or Collins glass by placing it in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the ingredients. When ready, discard the ice water and add 1 cup of fresh crushed ice or ice cubes to the glass.

   Build the cocktail

   In a cocktail shaker (or mixing glass) add 2 oz dark rum, 0.5 oz vodka, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 0.25 oz grenadine, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters. Fill the shaker with ice and give a quick single short shake (8–10 seconds)—just enough to chill and slightly dilute the mix.

   Combine with cola

   Strain the shaken spirit mixture into the prepared glass over the ice. Slowly top with 4 oz chilled cola to preserve carbonation. Gently stir once with a bar spoon (2–3 revolutions) to integrate the cola with the spirit mix without flattening it.

   Garnish and serve

   Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim and add a maraschino cherry if desired. Serve immediately with a straw. Encourage the drinker to give the lime a little squeeze before sipping to brighten flavors.

   Notes: Adjust sweetness and strength to taste — increase grenadine by 0.25 oz for sweeter, or reduce spirits by 0.5 oz for a lighter drink. Use diet cola if you prefer fewer calories, but flavor will be slightly different.
