Base and Carbonation
Ice and Serve
Method
Base and Carbonation
- 1
Chill components
Place the carbonated water and syrup in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before mixing. Cold liquids hold carbonation better and produce a better fountain-drink texture.
- 2
Measure 1/2 cup of cola syrup into a chilled mixing pitcher or cup. This is a typical fountain-soda ratio; adjust to taste if you prefer sweeter or lighter flavor.
- 3
Slowly pour 2 cups of chilled carbonated water into the pitcher over the back of a spoon or down the inside wall of the pitcher to preserve as much carbonation as possible. Pour gently to minimize foaming.
- 4
Stir gently once with a long spoon or stirrer for 5–8 seconds to combine syrup and carbonated water. Avoid vigorous stirring which will flatten the drink.
Ice and Serve
- 5
Fill a 16–20 oz serving glass with about 1 cup of ice cubes (or to preferred level). If you prefer less dilution, use chilled glass and less ice.
- 6
Pour the mixed fountain drink over the ice, pouring slowly to avoid excessive foaming and spillage.
- 7
Garnish with an optional lemon slice on the rim and/or a maraschino cherry dropped into the glass.
- 8
Serve immediately with a straw. Recommend tasting and adjusting future mixes by increasing syrup in 1–2 tablespoon increments if a stronger flavor is desired.
