Cocktail
Muddle
Place the 6 medium fresh basil leaves in a cocktail shaker. Add the agave nectar and fresh lemon juice. Gently muddle the basil with a muddler (or the back of a spoon) 6–8 times just to bruise the leaves and release aromatic oils—do not over-muddle to avoid bitterness.
Add spirits
Add 2 oz Tito's Handmade Vodka and 0.5 oz Thatcher's elderflower liqueur to the shaker.
Shake
Fill the shaker with about 1 cup of ice, secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels cold (well chilled).
Double strain
Double-strain the cocktail into a chilled rocks glass filled with fresh ice or into a coupe if you prefer it served neat. Use both the shaker's strainer and a fine mesh strainer to catch small bits of basil and ice shards for a clean texture.
Top (optional)
If you prefer a slightly longer, lighter drink, top with about 2 oz club soda and give a very gentle stir (1–2 rotations) to integrate.
Garnish & Finish
Garnish with a lemon wheel or twist and a fresh basil sprig. Clap the basil sprig between your hands once to express its aroma before placing it on the drink.
Serve immediately and enjoy.
