Method
Artisanal Breads
Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
Mix Flour and Salt
In another bowl, mix the bread flour, whole wheat flour, and salt.
Combine Ingredients
Once the yeast mixture is foamy, gradually add the flour mixture and olive oil. Mix until the dough begins to form.
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape the Breads
Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into three equal parts. Shape each part into a loaf.
Second Rise
Place the shaped loaves on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30-40 minutes.
Bake
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
Dipping Oil
Prepare Dipping Oil
In a small bowl, combine extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, minced garlic, fresh rosemary, and crushed red pepper flakes. Mix well.
Serve
Pour the dipping oil into a shallow dish for serving.
Butter
Prepare Butter
In a small bowl, soften the unsalted butter and mix in the sea salt until well combined.
Serve
Transfer the butter to a serving dish.
