Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Mix the base

Add gin, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and orange liqueur to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Use the specified amounts: 1.5 oz gin, 0.75 oz lemon juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, 0.25 oz orange liqueur.

  2. 2

    Shake

Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is well chilled (this chills and lightly dilutes the mixture).

  3. 3

    Strain into glass

Double-strain (using a Hawthorne and fine mesh if available) the shaken mixture into a chilled flute or coupe glass, leaving room for the sparkling wine.

  4. 4

    Top with sparkling wine

Slowly top the glass with about 3 oz chilled sparkling wine (Brut or extra dry) to preserve the bubbles and integrate without overflowing. Pour gently down the side if needed.

  5. 5

    Garnish and serve

Express the oils of a lemon twist over the surface, rim the glass with the twist, and drop it into the drink or rest on the rim. Serve immediately while effervescent.
