Tiramisu Preparation
1. Make the Coffee Mixture
Brew the espresso coffee and let it cool. If using, mix in the coffee liqueur.
2. Prepare the Mascarpone Mixture
In a mixing bowl, separate the egg yolks from the whites. Whisk the egg yolks with sugar until pale and creamy. Then, gently fold in the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract until smooth.
3. Whip the Egg Whites
In another bowl, whip the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated.
4. Assemble the Tiramisu
Dip each ladyfinger into the cooled coffee mixture briefly, then layer them at the bottom of a serving dish. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat the layers with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture.
5. Chill
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
6. Serve
Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder for garnish.
