Method
Cocktail
- 1
Build and chill
Add 2 oz Nikka From The Barrel, 0.75 oz sweet vermouth, 0.5 oz apple liqueur (or Calvados), 0.25 oz allspice dram, 2 dashes orange bitters, 1 dash Angostura bitters, and 0.25 oz simple syrup into a mixing glass.
- 2
- 3
Strain
Using a julep or Hawthorne strainer, double-strain into a chilled old-fashioned glass over one large ice cube (or a few large ice cubes) to keep temperature steady without over-dilution.
Garnish & Finish
- 4
Express the oils of the orange peel over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down 2β3 inches above the surface and giving it a sharp fold or squeeze so the oils spray onto the cocktail. Rub the peel around the glass rim and drop it into the drink.
- 5
Optionally grate a tiny pinch of fresh nutmeg over the top for a warm, spicy aroma that complements the allspice dram.
- 6
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to enjoy the balance of Nikka's robust, spicy-sweet character against the rounded sweetness of vermouth and apple notes.
