Method

Cocktail

1

Prepare glass and combine ingredients

Select an Old Fashioned (rocks) glass. Add the simple syrup to the glass, then add 3 dashes of Angostura bitters and 1 dash of orange bitters. Add about 1/4 oz (a splash) of cold water to help dissolve and integrate the syrup and bitters.

2

Stir to dissolve

Use a bar spoon to stir the syrup, bitters, and water together in the glass for about 10–15 seconds until evenly mixed and slightly frothy. This ensures the bitters are distributed and the syrup is slightly diluted.

3

Add whiskey and ice

Pour 2 oz of bourbon or rye whiskey into the glass over the dissolved syrup mixture. Add one large ice cube (or several large cubes) to the glass.

4

Chill and dilute

Stir the cocktail gently with the bar spoon for 20–30 seconds, or about 10–15 revolutions, until the glass becomes cold and the drink is lightly diluted. This integrates flavors and chills the cocktail without over-diluting.

5

Garnish and finish

Express the oils from the orange peel over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down above the glass and giving it a firm snap to release the citrus oils. Rub the rim of the glass with the peel, then drop the peel into the drink. Add one Luxardo or maraschino cherry on a pick or dropped into the cocktail. Serve immediately.
