Method
Base (coffee)
Brew Espresso
Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2 oz) using an espresso machine. If you don't have an espresso machine, brew very strong coffee (2 oz espresso equivalent) using Moka pot or AeroPress.
Optional Americano
If you prefer an Americano-style base for the 16 oz cup, pour the 2 oz espresso into the cup and add 4 oz hot water to reach a better coffee-to-milk balance. Otherwise skip this step and use espresso directly.
Milk & Foam
Steam Milk
Pour 10 oz of whole milk into a steaming pitcher. Steam milk using the steam wand until it reaches 150–155°F (65–68°C) and develops a velvety microfoam. Aim for a small amount (about 0.5 oz) of thicker foam to top the drink. If you don't have a steam wand, gently heat milk on the stove to 150°F and froth vigorously with a handheld frother.
Sweetener & Flavor (optional)
Sweeten
If using syrup, add 1 tablespoon of simple syrup or flavored syrup to the espresso (or to the cup) before adding milk so it dissolves evenly. Adjust to taste.
Garnish
Lightly dust the foam with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon or cocoa powder for aroma and presentation.
