Base Brew

Method

Base Brew

1

Prepare strong coffee

Brew 3 cups of very strong coffee (use double-strength or espresso-style if available). Allow it to cool to room temperature if making an iced refill; otherwise keep hot.

2

If you want a more complex base, brew 1 cup of strong black tea (or an extra cup of coffee) and combine it with the cooled coffee to total about 4 cups of base liquid (3 cups coffee + 1 cup tea/coffee).

3

Heat 2 cups of hot water separately if you need to top up or loosen the concentrate for hot servings.

Sweetener & Flavor

4

While the coffee is still warm (if making hot beverage), stir in 2 tablespoons granulated sugar until dissolved. If making iced, dissolve the sugar in 2 tablespoons of the hot water reserved, then blend with the cooled coffee.

5

Add 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup if you prefer a natural sweetener and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for depth. Adjust sweetness to taste.

Milk & Creamer (optional)

6

For each serving, mix about 1/4 to 1/3 cup milk or dairy-free milk into the brewed base. For a richer beverage, add up to 2 tablespoons of half-and-half or heavy cream per serving.

7

To create a refill concentrate to store: combine the sweetened coffee base with the milk/cream portions only if you plan to consume within 24–48 hours. Otherwise keep milk separate and add fresh when serving.

Assembly & Serving

8

Hot serving: In a mug, combine 1 cup brewed base (coffee + optional tea), 1/4 cup hot water if desired to loosen, 1/4 cup milk (or to taste), and heat briefly if needed. Stir and garnish with a light dusting of cinnamon or cocoa.

9

Iced serving: Fill a glass with 1 cup cooled brewed base and ice to taste (about 1 cup). Add 1/4–1/3 cup milk or creamer, stir well. Taste and adjust sweetness. Sprinkle with cinnamon or cocoa if desired.

10

Refill strategy: Store concentrated brewed base (unsweetened if storing longer) in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. When refilling a cup, use roughly 1 part concentrate to 1 part hot water or milk for hot drinks, or 1.5 parts concentrate to 1 part ice/milk for iced drinks, adjusting to personal strength preference.
