Medium Drink (20 oz total)
Method
Medium Drink (20 oz total)
Prepare glass and ice
Fill a 20 oz cup or glass with approximately 2 cups of ice (loosely filled). This will chill the drink and bring it to the proper 20 oz volume when other liquids are added.
Brew coffee
Brew 3 fl oz of strong coffee or pull 2 standard espresso shots (about 3 fl oz total). Let it rest 30–60 seconds so it is hot but not boiling, then allow it to cool slightly before combining with cold liquids to avoid melting too much ice.
Add sweetener and flavor
Pour 1.5 tbs of simple syrup into the brewed coffee while it's warm so it dissolves completely. If using, add 1 tsp vanilla extract and stir to combine.
Assemble drink
Pour the sweetened coffee over the ice in the prepared cup. Add 8 fl oz of cold milk (dairy or plant) and 8 fl oz cold water. The proportions of milk and water here are chosen to reach approximately 20 fl oz total volume with ice; if you prefer a creamier drink, replace some of the water with additional milk (for example 12 fl oz milk + 4 fl oz water). Stir thoroughly for 10–15 seconds to mix coffee, milk, water and syrup and to chill the drink evenly.
Finish and serve
Top with 2 tbs whipped cream if desired. Insert a straw and serve immediately. The drink yields one 20 oz medium serving.
