Hot Dogs & Buns

Toppings — Mustard & Ketchup

Method

Hot Dogs & Buns

1

Prepare buns

If you like toasted buns, spread 1/2 tablespoon butter inside each bun. Heat a nonstick pan over medium heat. Place buns cut-side down and toast 1–2 minutes until golden. Remove and keep warm.

2

Cook sausages — simmer method

Place sausages in a medium saucepan and add enough water to cover (about 2 cups). Add 1/4 teaspoon salt. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat and cook 5–7 minutes until heated through. Remove with tongs and drain on paper towels.

3

Cook sausages — pan-fry method

Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add sausages and cook 6–8 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides and heated through. Reduce heat if they brown too quickly. Drain on paper towels.

4

Cook sausages — grill method

Preheat grill to medium. Place sausages on the grill and cook 6–8 minutes, turning so they brown evenly, until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for meat sausages or per package instructions for plant-based.

Toppings — Mustard & Ketchup

5

Place 1 tablespoon mustard and 1 tablespoon ketchup inside each toasted bun or set out condiments for guests to add themselves.

Optional Toppings

6

Distribute optional toppings as desired: sprinkle diced onion (about 2 tablespoons per hot dog), spoon relish (about 1 tablespoon each), add sauerkraut (about 2 tablespoons), sprinkle grated cheddar (about 2 tablespoons), and add jalapeño slices to taste.

Cooking & Serving

7

Assemble: place a cooked sausage into each bun. Add mustard and ketchup (or to taste), then add any optional toppings. Season lightly with black pepper if desired.

8

Serve immediately while hot with sides like chips or fries.
