Build cocktail
In a cocktail shaker, add the Patrón Añejo tequila (2 oz), fresh lime juice (0.75 oz), agave syrup (0.5 oz), orange liqueur (0.5 oz), and two dashes of Angostura bitters.
- 3
Add ice and shake
Add a handful of ice (enough to chill properly) to the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.
- 4
Prepare serving glass
Discard the ice from the chilled rocks glass. Add one large clear ice cube or several fresh large cubes to the glass.
- 5
Strain and finish
Double-strain the shaken cocktail into the prepared rocks glass over the large ice cube using a Hawthorne strainer and (optional) fine strainer to remove small ice shards and any pulp.
- 6
Garnish
Express an orange peel over the drink to release the oils and (optional) quickly flame the peel by holding a lit match or lighter between the peel and the glass while squeezing to spray oils through the flame. Rub the peel around the glass rim and drop it in or place a lime wheel on the edge.
- 7
Serve
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the aged tequila's oak and vanilla character complemented by bright citrus and subtle bitters.
