Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a martini glass or coupe in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.

2

Combine ingredients

Fill a mixing glass or shaker halfway with ice. Pour in 2 oz Stolichnaya vodka and 0.5 oz dry vermouth. If making a Dirty variation, add 0.25 oz olive brine now. If you prefer a Gibson, omit the olive brine and plan to garnish with a cocktail onion.

3

Stir (preferred) or shake

Stir the mixture briskly for 20–30 seconds with a bar spoon until well chilled and slightly diluted. If you prefer a more aerated, colder drink, you can shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds (note: shaking will slightly cloud the drink).

4

Prepare glass

If you chilled the glass with ice water, dump the ice water and dry the glass. If the glass was in the freezer, remove it now.

5

Strain and garnish

Using a julep or fine strainer, strain the cocktail into the chilled martini glass. Express a lemon twist over the drink by holding the twist over the glass and squeezing to release the oils, then run the twist around the rim and drop it in. For a Dirty or Gibson variation, instead garnish with a green olive (skewered) or a cocktail onion.

6

Serve

Serve immediately while cold. Optionally provide a small cocktail napkin or a tiny plate for the garnish.
