Method
Prepare Honey Syrup (if not pre-made)
Mixing the Cocktail
Wet shake
Open the shaker, add cubed ice (about 1 cup). Seal and shake hard for 12–18 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch and well-chilled.
Double strain and serve
Using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh (or just the fine mesh if preferred), double-strain the mixture into a chilled old-fashioned glass over a large ice cube or sphere. Double straining removes small ice shards and any coagulated egg white, yielding a silky texture.
Express oils and garnish
Take the orange peel and hold it 3–4 inches above the glass. Give it a firm pinch to express the citrus oils over the surface of the drink, then run the peel around the rim and drop it into the glass. Optionally, grate a small amount of fresh nutmeg over the foam for a warm aromatic accent.
Serve
Presentation
Present immediately so the foam and aromatics are at their best. Sip and enjoy the balance of Irish whiskey warmth, citrus brightness, honeyed sweetness, and the bitter-orange lift from Aperol and bitters.
