Cocktail
Prepare glass
Choose a chilled old-fashioned or rocks glass. If preferred, add a few ice cubes to chill the glass and discard before pouring, or serve over fresh ice as directed below.
Shake
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch and the ingredients are well combined. The lemon juice will help balance the sweetness and marry the flavors.
Strain and serve
Strain the cocktail into the chilled old-fashioned glass over fresh ice (or neat into a chilled coupe if you prefer no ice). The grenadine will sink slightly, creating a layered red base reminiscent of a 'red card' effect.
Garnish
Drop one maraschino cherry into the drink and express a lemon twist over the surface to release oils, then place the twist on the rim or float it on top.
Serve immediately with a short stirrer or straw so the drinker can gently mix to their sweetness preference.
