Preparation
Measure and set up
Gather J.P. Wiser's Canadian whisky, sweet vermouth, dry vermouth, orange curaçao, bitters, and simple syrup. Have a mixing glass or shaker, a bar spoon, jigger, strainer, and a large ice supply ready.
Mixing
Combine ingredients
Add 2 oz J.P. Wiser's Canadian whisky, 1 oz sweet vermouth, 0.5 oz dry vermouth, 0.25 oz orange curaçao, 2 dashes aromatic bitters, 1 dash orange bitters, and 0.25 tsp simple syrup (optional) into a mixing glass.
Add ice and stir
Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes. Stir gently but steadily for 30–45 seconds (about 20–30 full revolutions) until the mixture is well-chilled and slightly diluted. Proper stirring chills and dilutes without over-aerating.
Strain
Double-strain or fine-strain the cocktail from the mixing glass into the chilled serving glass (over the large ice cube for a rocks presentation or neat in a coupe).
Garnish & Finish
Express orange oils
Hold an orange twist over the glass and give it a good squeeze to express the citrus oils over the surface of the cocktail, then run the twist around the rim and drop it in.
Add cherry
Skewer a Luxardo cherry and rest it on the rim or drop it into the drink for a classic finish.
Serve
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the blended profile of Canadian whisky, fortified wines, and orange notes.
