Crab Dip

Garnish (optional)

Method

Crab Dip

1

Prepare cheeses and base

In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, Boursin-style herbed cheese, and mayonnaise. Use a rubber spatula or electric hand mixer on low speed to blend until smooth and homogenous, about 1–2 minutes.

2

Add flavorings

Stir in the grated Parmesan ('poor man’s cheese'), minced shallot, minced garlic, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce (if using), lemon juice, lemon zest (if using), and olive oil. Mix until evenly distributed.

3

Fold in crab and herbs

Gently fold in the lump crab meat and 1 tablespoon chopped parsley, taking care not to break up the crab too much. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Adjust lemon, hot sauce, or salt if needed.

4

Chill for melding

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (up to 4 hours) so the flavors meld and the dip firms slightly. If you prefer a warm dip, transfer to an ovenproof dish after chilling and bake as directed below.

5

Optional: Warm and brown

For a warm, slightly browned top: preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Spoon the chilled dip into a shallow ovenproof baking dish, smooth the top, sprinkle with an additional 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan, and bake 12–15 minutes until bubbly and lightly golden. Finish under broiler 1–2 minutes if you want more browning—watch closely.

Crostini

6

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange baguette slices in a single layer on a baking sheet. Brush each slice lightly with olive oil and season with a light sprinkle of salt and black pepper.

7

Bake the slices for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until edges are crisp and centers are just golden. For extra crunch, broil 30–60 seconds at the end—watch carefully to avoid burning. Remove and cool slightly.

Serve

8

If serving chilled: transfer dip to a serving bowl, sprinkle with remaining chopped parsley and sliced chives, and serve with warm or room-temperature crostini alongside lemon wedges.

9

If serving warm: place hot baked dip on a trivet, garnish with extra herbs, and serve immediately with crostini and lemon wedges.
