Method

Equipment & prep

1

Gather equipment

Assemble drip brewer (electric drip coffee maker or pour-over cone), filter (paper or reusable), burr grinder, kettle, scale, timer, and a server or carafe.

2

Preheat and rinse

Bring the kettle to a boil then remove from heat. Place the paper filter in the cone or brewer and pour the 0.05 l of hot water through it to rinse away paper taste and preheat the cone and server. Discard rinse water.

Grind & dose

3

Measure coffee

Weigh 35 g (0.035 kg) of freshly roasted whole coffee beans. This yields about 2 to 3 8-oz servings depending on strength preference.

4

Grind

Grind the beans to a medium grind suitable for drip brewing — similar to granulated sugar. Adjust slightly coarser for paper filter cone or slightly finer for electric drip with longer contact time.

Brewing

5

Add grounds

Place the ground coffee into the rinsed filter, level the bed gently by shaking the brewer or tapping the sides so the grounds are even.

6

Bloom (for manual pour-over)

Start timer. Pour about 60–70 ml of the hot water (roughly twice the weight of coffee) evenly over the grounds to saturate them. Allow the coffee to bloom for 30–45 seconds to release CO2.

7

Continue pouring (for manual pour-over)

After the bloom, pour the remaining water in slow concentric circles or steady pulses, keeping the water level consistent and avoiding pouring directly on the filter. Aim to finish pouring by 2:15–2:30 minutes total elapsed time.

8

Electric drip method

If using an electric drip brewer, simply add the measured water (0.5 l) to the reservoir and start the machine after placing the filter and grounds. Brewing typically finishes in 4–6 minutes depending on the machine.

9

Final drawdown

Allow all water to pass through the grounds. Total contact time for a manual pour-over should be about 2:30–3:30 minutes; for electric drip, 4–6 minutes. Remove the filter and discard or compost the used grounds and paper.

Serve

10

Pour and adjust

Pour the brewed coffee into cups. Taste and add optional milk/cream (30 ml per cup) and sugar (1 tsp per cup) to preference.

11

Storage and cleanup

Rinse the brewer and carafe promptly. Store leftover brewed coffee covered in the fridge and consume within 24 hours for best flavor.
