Herbal Tea Blend
To Brew (per 4-cup pitcher)
Method
Herbal Tea Blend
Combine dried ingredients
In a bowl, gently mix the dried hibiscus, dried lemongrass, rose petals, lavender buds, and ground cinnamon until evenly combined. If using dried orange peel, fold it in now. This is the concentrated blend that will be measured for each brew.
Store blend (optional)
Transfer the blended herbs to an airtight jar and store in a cool, dark place for up to 3 months. Label with contents and date.
To Brew (per 4-cup pitcher)
Measure blend
Measure 3 tablespoons of the prepared herbal tea blend for every 4 cups (1 quart) of water. For this recipe use 3 tablespoons of blend.
Steep the tea
Place the 3 tablespoons of herbal blend into a heatproof teapot, infuser, or a small fine-mesh strainer. Add the two whole cinnamon sticks to the pot. Pour the boiling water over the herbs and cinnamon sticks. Cover and steep for 8–12 minutes depending on desired strength (8 minutes for lighter floral notes, 12 minutes for robust tartness and cinnamon presence).
Serve hot or chilled
For hot tea: pour into cups and garnish with a lemon slice if desired. For iced tea: let the brewed tea cool to room temperature (15–20 minutes), then transfer to a pitcher, add 2 cups of ice and additional lemon slices, and refrigerate until cold. If diluting from ice melt, add a few extra tablespoons of concentrate or brew slightly stronger (use 4 tablespoons blend) to account for dilution.
Reheat or store
Store leftover tea in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stove for hot servings; do not boil. For best flavor, shake or stir before serving as some sediment may settle.
