Sandwich

Method

Sandwich

  1. 1

    Prep the bread

Place two slices of bread flat on a clean cutting board or plate.

  2. 2

    Spread the peanut butter

Using a butter knife, scoop about 2 tablespoons of smooth peanut butter and spread it evenly over one side of one bread slice. Cover the entire slice, leaving a small margin at the edges to prevent squeezing out.

  3. 3

    Spread the grape jelly

Using a clean knife or the back of a spoon, spread about 1 tablespoon of grape jelly evenly over one side of the other bread slice. If your child prefers more or less jelly, adjust to taste.

  4. 4

    Assemble

Place the peanut butter–coated slice and the jelly–coated slice together with the spreads facing each other. Press gently to secure.

  5. 5

    Trim and cut (kid-friendly)

If desired, trim the crusts using a small knife or cut the sandwich into halves, triangles, or fun shapes with cookie cutters to make it easier and more appealing for kids.

Optional: Toasted version

  1. 6

If you prefer a warm sandwich, lightly butter the outside of each bread slice (about 1 tsp butter total) and place the assembled sandwich in a skillet over medium-low heat. Cook 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown and the peanut butter softens. Flip carefully with a spatula.

  2. 7

Alternatively, toast the bread first in a toaster before spreading peanut butter and jelly to keep fillings from making the bread soggy.

Optional additions

  1. 8

To add banana, lay 1/2 cup of thin banana slices on top of the peanut butter before closing the sandwich. This adds sweetness and extra texture.
