Base & Fruit

Method

Prepare Ingredients

1

Measure and prep

Measure out all ingredients. Peel the banana and break it into chunks. If using fresh berries instead of frozen, add the ice cubes to the recipe to chill and thicken the smoothie.

2

If you prefer a colder smoothie or are using fresh fruit, put the banana pieces and measured liquid in the freezer for 10–15 minutes while you prepare other ingredients (optional).

Blend

3

Layer for best blending

Add liquids first to the blender (almond milk and optional orange juice), then Greek yogurt, vanilla extract, then banana chunks, frozen mixed berries, spinach, honey or maple syrup, and ground flaxseed. Top with ice cubes if using.

4

Blend until smooth

Secure the lid and blend on high for 45–90 seconds, stopping once to scrape down the sides with a spatula if needed. Blend until the spinach is fully incorporated and there are no large fruit or ice chunks. If too thick, add 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of almond milk at a time and pulse until you reach desired consistency.

Finish & Serve

5

Taste and adjust

Taste the smoothie and adjust sweetness or thickness: add up to 1 more teaspoon of honey/maple syrup for sweetness or more milk for a thinner texture. If you want more fiber/protein, stir in an additional 1/2 tablespoon ground flaxseed or a scoop of protein powder and pulse briefly.

6

Pour the smoothie into a tall glass. Sprinkle chia seeds on top and garnish with a fresh berry or banana slice if desired. Serve immediately.
