Shake base

Method

Prepare ingredients

1

Ripeness and prep

Choose ripe bananas with brown freckling for best sweetness. Peel bananas and cut into 1-inch pieces so they blend easily. If you prefer a colder, thicker shake, freeze banana pieces for 1–2 hours before blending.

2

Measure out milk, yogurt, cocoa powder, chocolate syrup, sugar or honey, vanilla, and ice. If making whipped cream, chill a small bowl and beat heavy cream until soft peaks form; set aside.

Blend the shake

3

Combine in blender

Add the banana pieces, 2 cups milk, 1 cup yogurt, 3 tbs cocoa powder, 3 tbs chocolate syrup, 1 tbs sugar or honey, 1 tsp vanilla extract, and 1 cup ice cubes to a blender. If using peanut butter, add 2 tsp now.

4

Blend

Secure the lid and blend on high for 30–60 seconds, or until the mixture is completely smooth and has a milkshake consistency. Stop and scrape down the sides once if needed, then blend again for 10–15 seconds.

5

Adjust texture and sweetness

If the shake is too thick, add up to 1/2 cup additional milk and pulse to combine. If it's too thin, add a few more ice cubes or an extra 1/2 banana and blend. Taste and add more chocolate syrup or sugar/honey if you want it sweeter; blend briefly to incorporate.

Serve

6

Pour the shake into two tall glasses (about 2 servings). If using whipped cream, top each glass with a dollop of whipped cream. Garnish with banana slice and sprinkle chocolate shavings or sprinkles on top.

7

Serve immediately with a straw and enjoy.
