Coffee Base

Method

Coffee Base

1

Heat water

Measure 12 fl oz (about 355 ml) of fresh cold water. Heat water to just below boiling (about 200°F / 93°C) — when small bubbles form and steam rises but it is not a rolling boil.

2

Prepare coffee grounds

Measure 2 tablespoons of freshly ground coffee (medium grind). If using whole beans, grind them to a consistency suited to your brew method (medium for drip, medium-coarse for pour-over, coarse for French press).

3

Brew

Brew using your chosen method: - Drip or pour-over: Place filter and grounds in the cone, pour a small amount of hot water to bloom the grounds for 30 seconds, then pour remaining water slowly and evenly. Total brew time ~3-4 minutes. - French press: Add grounds to carafe, pour hot water, stir gently, place lid (no plunge), steep 4 minutes, then press slowly. - Instant: Add grounds (or instant coffee) to mug and pour hot water, stirring to dissolve. Pour the brewed coffee into your mug.

Optional Add-ins

4

Sweeten and finish: Taste the hot brewed coffee. Add 1 teaspoon sugar (or to taste) and stir until dissolved. Add 2 tablespoons milk or cream (or to taste) and stir. If using flavored syrup, add 1 teaspoon. Sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon on top if desired.

Equipment

5

Clean up: Discard used grounds and rinse equipment. If using a French press, remove grounds promptly to avoid over-extraction in future brews.
