Method

Prepare cup and espresso

1

Preheat cup

Pour 1 oz hot water into the serving glass or demitasse to warm it, swirl for 10–15 seconds, then discard the water.

2

Brew espresso

Pull a fresh double espresso (about 2 oz) using good-quality freshly ground coffee. Aim for a 25–30 second extraction for balanced flavor. Serve immediately while very hot.

Assemble Carajillo

3

Measure 1 oz Licor 43 into the preheated serving glass or demitasse.

4

Pour the hot 2 oz espresso over the Licor 43. Pour steadily so the liqueur mixes into the coffee; you can pour over the back of a spoon on the glass edge for a gentler mix if preferred.

5

Optional — garnish: express an orange twist over the drink to release oils and drop it in, or float 3 coffee beans on top for aroma and presentation.

6

Serve immediately while hot. Stir briefly before drinking if you prefer a fully integrated sweetness; otherwise sip to enjoy layers of flavor.
