Method
Prep
Chill glass
Place a large ice cube into the old fashioned glass to chill it, or keep the glass in the freezer for a few minutes. If pre-chilling with ice, remove the cube before pouring the finished drink and replace with a fresh large cube at the end.
Measure and ready all ingredients: rye whiskey, demerara syrup, angostura bitters, orange bitters, and maraschino liqueur. Have bar tools at hand.
Build & Stir
Combine ingredients
In a mixing glass add 0.5 oz demerara syrup, 3 dashes angostura bitters, 1 dash orange bitters, and 0.25 oz maraschino liqueur.
Finish & Garnish
Strain
Discard the chilling ice from the old fashioned glass if used. Using a strainer, strain the stirred cocktail over a fresh large ice cube in the old fashioned glass.
Express orange oil
Take the orange peel and hold it over the drink, skin side down. Give it a firm twist to express the oils across the surface of the cocktail, then rub the peel around the rim of the glass.
Garnish
Drop the expressed orange peel into the glass. Optionally add one Luxardo cherry on a pick or dropped into the drink.
