Method
Prep
- 1
Prepare produce
If using a waxed cucumber, peel it. Cut 3 slices about 1/4 inch thick for muddling and reserve a thin long strip (use a vegetable peeler) for an optional ribbon garnish. Roll the mint leaves gently between your palms once to release aroma and set aside one sprig for garnish.
Mixing
- 2
Muddle cucumber and mint
In a cocktail shaker, add the 3 cucumber slices and 6 of the mint leaves (reserve 2 leaves for garnish if desired). Add the simple syrup and fresh lime juice. Using a muddler, gently press and twist 8–10 times until cucumber releases juice but not so hard that it becomes pulpy or bitter.
- 3
Add spirit and ice
Add the 2 oz of your chosen base (vodka, gin, or non‑alcoholic spirit) to the shaker. Fill the shaker with ice (about 4–6 large cubes) and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled.
- 4
Double strain
Place a fine mesh strainer over a rocks glass filled with crushed or fresh ice. Double‑strain the shaken mixture through the shaker’s strainer and the fine mesh into the prepared glass to remove cucumber solids and mint bits for a clean, silky texture.
