Method
Cocktail
Build and shake
Add 2 oz Knob Creek 9 yr. bourbon, 0.5 oz Amaro Montenegro, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 1 oz Ela Orchard apple cider, 2 dashes Angostura bitters, and 0.25 oz simple syrup (optional) into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake
Shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted on the outside. This both chills and lightly dilutes the drink, marrying the bourbon and apple notes.
Prepare glass
Place a large ice cube or sphere in an old fashioned glass.
Double strain
Double-strain the cocktail from the shaker into the prepared glass over the large ice cube using a Hawthorne and/or fine strainer to catch small ice shards and pulp.
Serve
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to enjoy the interplay of oak-forward bourbon, bitter-sweet Montenegro, bright lemon, and fresh apple cider.

Variations
If you prefer a slightly sweeter, less tart cocktail, increase simple syrup to 0.5 oz. For a drier, more spirit-forward version, omit the simple syrup and reduce apple cider to 0.75 oz.
Ingredient notes
Use fresh-pressed Ela Orchard apple cider if available for best flavor; store-bought cider is acceptable but avoid heavily sweetened commercial apple juices.
Bitters adjustment
Adjust bitters to taste — 1–3 dashes of Angostura will change aromatic profile.
