Glass + Garnish
1. Chill the glass
Place a clean pint glass in the refrigerator or a freezer for 10–20 minutes ahead of serving to get it cold. If you're short on time, fill the glass with ice water for 2–3 minutes, then dump the water just before pouring.
2. Prepare garnish (optional)
If you like a citrus accent, cut one wedge from a fresh lemon or lime. Set it on the rim or squeeze lightly over the beer after pouring. Note: traditional Heineken is served without garnish; adding citrus is optional and will change the flavor profile.
Pouring the Beer
3. Hold the chilled glass at a 45-degree angle. Open the chilled 330 ml Heineken bottle or can quietly to avoid excessive foaming.
4. Begin pouring the beer slowly down the side of the glass to the halfway point, maintaining the 45-degree angle. This reduces head formation and preserves carbonation.
5. When the glass is about half full, gradually tilt the glass upright and pour down the center to create a 1–1.5 inch (2–4 cm) head of foam. This head improves aroma and presentation.
6. Allow the foam to settle briefly. If there's excessive foam, wait 10–20 seconds and then top up gently to reach the desired level.
7. Optionally, garnish with the lemon or lime wedge on the rim or squeeze lightly over the beer and drop it in. Serve immediately while cold.
