Gnocchi
Bolognese Sauce
Method
Gnocchi Preparation
Shape the Gnocchi
On a floured surface, divide the dough into sections and roll each section into a long rope about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into 1-inch pieces. Optionally, press each piece with a fork to create ridges.
Cook the Gnocchi
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add gnocchi in batches, cooking until they float to the surface (about 2-3 minutes). Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.
Bolognese Sauce Preparation
Sauté the Vegetables
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté until the vegetables are softened (about 5 minutes).
Add Meat and Calamari
Add ground beef and cook until browned. Stir in the calamari and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Add crushed tomatoes, garlic, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well and let simmer for 15-20 minutes until the sauce thickens.
Combine and Serve
Combine Gnocchi and Sauce
Gently toss the cooked gnocchi with the bolognese sauce. Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil or grated cheese if desired.
