Cocktail
Method
Cocktail
- 1
Chill glass
Place a coupe or old-fashioned glass in the freezer for several minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the drink stays cold.
- 2
Combine ingredients
In a mixing glass filled with plenty of ice, pour 2 oz Rittenhouse Rye, 1 oz Amaro Averna, 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters (if using).
- 3
Stir
Stir the mixture briskly for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full strokes) until well chilled and properly diluted — the mixing glass should become noticeably cold and slightly frosted.
- 4
Strain
Discard the ice or water from your chilled serving glass. Using a julep or hawthorne strainer, strain the cocktail from the mixing glass into the chilled coupe or over a large ice cube in an old-fashioned glass, depending on your preference.
- 5
Garnish and serve
Float or drop a Luxardo (or brandied) cherry into the drink. Optionally express a strip of orange peel over the surface to add aromatic oil, then discard or rub on the rim and drop it in. Serve immediately.
