Condiments & garnish

Method

Protein (choose one)

1

Pork chop (pan-seared)

Pat the 3–4 oz pork chop dry with paper towel. Season both sides with 1/8 tsp salt, a pinch of pepper and 1/8 tsp mild seasoning. Heat 1 tsp (approx 1/3 tbs) oil in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. When shimmering, add the pork chop and sear 2–3 minutes without moving until golden. Flip and reduce heat to medium; cook another 2–3 minutes until internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C). Remove and rest 3 minutes before serving.

2

Chicken (pan-roast)

If using a small boneless breast or thigh, pat dry and season with 1/8 tsp salt, pinch of pepper and 1/8 tsp seasoning. Heat 1 tbs oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chicken and cook 3–4 minutes per side until juices run clear and internal temperature is 165°F (74°C). Rest 2 minutes, then slice or serve whole.

3

Ham or Turkey (deli slices)

Heat a nonstick skillet over medium for 1 minute. Fold two slices of deli ham or turkey and warm in the skillet 30–45 seconds per side until slightly browned and warmed through. Alternatively serve cold. Serve folded for easy eating by kids.

Side item (choose one)

4

French fries (from frozen)

Bake or air-fry according to package for a small portion (about 0.75 cup). For oven: preheat to 425°F (220°C), spread fries on a baking sheet, bake 12–15 minutes turning once until golden. Season lightly with 1/8 tsp salt and serve with ketchup.

5

Mashed potatoes (quick)

Heat 1/2 cup prepared mashed potatoes in microwave-safe bowl 1–2 minutes until hot, stirring halfway. Stir in 1/2 tsp butter and a pinch (1/8 tsp) salt. Adjust texture with a splash of milk if needed.

6

Steamed mixed vegetables

Steam 1/2 cup mixed vegetables until tender (about 3–4 minutes in a steamer or microwave with a tablespoon water covered). Drain, toss with 1/2 tsp butter and 1/8 tsp salt and serve warm.

7

Apple slices

Core and slice one small apple into child-friendly slices (about 1/2 cup). If desired, toss with a squeeze of lemon to prevent browning. Serve fresh.

Snack

8

Portion 1/4 cup goldfish crackers (or 1 small cookie / single 4 oz yogurt) into a small dish or cup. If serving yogurt, provide a small spoon and refrigerate until serving.

Kids drink

9

Pour 4–6 oz of low-fat milk or 4–6 oz of juice into a child-sized cup. Offer water (about 4 oz) as an alternative. Keep cold beverages chilled until serving.

Plating & finishing

10

Assemble the kids plate: place the cooked protein (3–4 oz) on the plate, add the chosen side portion (about 1/2 cup), include the snack in a separate small compartment or ramekin, and pour the chosen drink. Add 1 tbs ketchup and 1/2 tsp mustard on the side for dipping. Ensure items have cooled to a safe, warm temperature appropriate for a child before serving.
