Nugget Ice — single bag

If serving (optional garnishes & serving supplies)

Method

Handling and preparing bag of nugget ice

1

Inspect bag

Examine the sealed bag of nugget ice for any punctures, leaks, frost buildup indicating partial thaw/refreeze, or visible contaminants. If the bag is damaged or appears contaminated, do not use; return or discard according to store/store policy.

2

Store properly until use

Keep the sealed bag in a freezer at 0°F (-18°C) or colder until ready to serve. Nugget ice maintains texture best when frozen solid; do not store in a refrigerator compartment for long periods.

3

Optional sanitize outer bag

If the outer bag was handled and you prefer extra caution, wipe the exterior with a sanitizing wipe or a cloth lightly moistened with a mild sanitizing solution, then let dry before opening. Use disposable gloves if desired.

4

Open bag

With clean hands (or gloves), place the sealed bag on a clean, flat surface. Tear or cut the top of the bag along the sealed seam using clean scissors or by pulling the notch. Open the bag wide enough to remove ice easily.

5

Portion ice

Scoop nugget ice by the cupful into cups or a clean container. A typical serving is about 1 cup of nugget ice per beverage; adjust quantity depending on cup size and desired dilution. For the optional serving items listed, portion 1 cup of ice into the cup and pour approximately 4 cups of beverage divided across servings as needed.

6

Close or re-seal bag

If ice remains in the bag after portioning, press out excess air and re-seal as much as possible (use a clip or fold-and-clip method) and return the bag to the freezer immediately to preserve texture. For best quality, use opened bag within 1–3 days.

Serving with beverages (optional)

7

Place the portioned nugget ice into the serving cup. Add the beverage over the ice. Insert a straw if desired and serve immediately. Nugget ice chills quickly and creates more surface area for dilution; monitor drink strength and add less ice if you want less dilution.

8

If preparing multiple servings, repeat portioning and pouring steps for each cup, keeping the bag closed between portions and returning it to the freezer promptly.

9

Dispose of any melted ice/water that collects at the bottom of the bag before returning to the freezer to avoid freezer burn or clumping.
