Hookah setup
Assemble the hookah
Place the stem into the base gasket, ensuring a snug seal. Attach the tray to the top of the stem. Fit the hose into the hose port using a rubber grommet to ensure an airtight connection. Ensure all grommets/seals are in place and the stem is straight and secure.
Check for airtightness: cover the top of the stem (where the bowl sits) and inhale gently through the hose. You should feel resistance and no air leaks. Tighten or replace grommets if necessary.
Water and additives
Fill the base
Pour approximately 600 ml of cold water into the glass base so the bottom of the metal stem is submerged about 2–3 cm (about 1 inch) in water. Add ice cubes if you prefer cooler, denser smoke. Optionally add a tablespoon of mint leaves, fruit slices, or a small amount of flavored syrup to the water for a subtle aroma.
Tobacco / shisha
Prepare the shisha
Pinch about 25 g of shisha tobacco (one standard bowl portion). Fluff and gently separate the shisha so it is airy—do not compress it. If using herbal shisha, treat it the same way. Choose from available flavors to mix if desired (for example, 60/40 base flavor and complementary top note).
Bowl and packing
Cover the bowl
If using foil: cover the bowl tightly with heavy-duty foil and pull it smooth. Using a toothpick or poker, poke an even pattern of small holes across the foil (concentrate holes around the outer edge and a few in the center). If using a heat management device (HMD), put the HMD on according to manufacturer instructions instead of foil.
Charcoal
Light the coals
Using tongs, light 2–3 pieces of charcoal on an electric coil or charcoal burner. For quick-light charcoal, wait until they are fully ignited and glowing with no black spots; for natural coconut coals, allow them to ash over completely. This typically takes 5–10 minutes depending on charcoal type.
Adjust heat as needed: if the smoke tastes harsh or burned, move coals toward the edge or remove one. If smoke is thin and lacking flavor, move coals slightly toward the center or add the third coal. Rotate or reposition coals every 10–15 minutes for even heating.
Serving and maintenance
Prime the hose and start smoking
Take a few gentle, steady draws to get the smoke flowing. Avoid aggressive inhales at first to let heat and vapor production stabilize. Expect smooth clouds if assembled correctly.
Maintain session
Monitor charcoal and ash; tap ash into an ashtray and reposition coals as needed. A typical session lasts 45–90 minutes depending on amount of shisha and charcoal used. Replace coals when they lose heat.
Clean up
When finished, remove remaining coals and let them cool fully in a safe place. Empty and rinse the bowl, stem, hose (if washable), and base. Clean the hookah after each session to preserve flavor quality and equipment lifespan.
