Preparation
Juicing the Citrus
Start by thoroughly washing the lemons and limes under running water. Cut each lemon and lime in half and use a citrus juicer or reamer to extract the juice. Strain the juice through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl to remove any seeds or pulp.
Making the Syrup
In a small saucepan, combine the freshly squeezed lemon and lime juice with granulated sugar. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring continuously until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
Mixing the Soda
In a large pitcher, combine the cooled citrus syrup with 4 cups of sparkling water. Stir gently to combine, ensuring that the sparkling water maintains its fizz.
Serving
Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the lemon-lime soda over the ice. Garnish each drink with a few fresh mint leaves for an added burst of flavor and aroma.
