Martini Mix

Method

Prep

1

Chill a martini glass by filling it with ice and water; set aside while you prepare the cocktail.

2

Add ice to a mixing glass or shaker until about two-thirds full.

Mixing

3

Combine ingredients

Pour 2.5 oz London dry gin, 0.5 oz dry vermouth and 0.25 oz Luxardo (or another maraschino liqueur) into the iced mixing glass.

4

Bitters

Add 2 dashes of orange bitters to the mixing glass.

5

Stir

Stir the mixture gently with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full rotations) until well chilled and slightly diluted. If you prefer a more effusive dilution, stir for up to 40 seconds. Avoid shaking to preserve clarity and silkiness.

Serve & Garnish

6

Discard the ice and water from the chilled martini glass and briefly wipe the inside with a clean cloth if needed.

7

Strain the stirred cocktail through a fine strainer or Hawthorne into the chilled martini glass, holding back the ice.

8

Express the oils from a lemon twist over the surface by holding the twist skin-side down around 2–3 inches above the drink and giving it a quick snap so the oils spray across the surface; rub the rim with the twist and drop it into the glass.

9

Add a single cocktail cherry to the bottom of the glass or place it on a cocktail pick and rest across the rim, according to preference.

10

Serve immediately.
