Montenegro Cocktail
Method
Montenegro Cocktail
Prepare glass
If serving chilled, place a coupe or old-fashioned glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill the serving glass with ice water while you build the cocktail; discard ice water before pouring.
Combine ingredients
Add 1.5 oz Amaro Montenegro, 1.5 oz gin, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.25 oz simple syrup, and 2 tsp orange bitters into a cocktail shaker.
Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker becomes frosty and well chilled.
Strain
Discard ice or water from the chilled serving glass if used. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or an old-fashioned glass over a large ice cube (optional) using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove small shards of ice and citrus pulp.
Garnish and serve
Express the oils of one orange twist over the drink by holding the twist skin-side down above the surface and giving it a quick pinch, then rub the peel on the rim and drop it into the glass. Serve immediately.
