Cynar Negroni-style Cocktail
Ice & tools
Method
Cynar Negroni-style Cocktail
Chill glass
Place the old-fashioned glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to chill it.
Measure and combine
Add 1 oz Cynar, 1 oz gin, and 1 oz sweet vermouth into a mixing glass or shaker.
Prepare glass
Discard the ice water from the chilled old-fashioned glass (if used) and add 1–2 large ice cubes or a large sphere.
Strain
Using a strainer, pour the stirred cocktail into the prepared old-fashioned glass over the ice.
Garnish
Use a peeler or paring knife to cut a 1-inch-wide twist of orange peel. Express the oils by holding the peel over the drink and giving it a quick twist, then rub the peel on the glass rim and drop it into the drink as garnish.
Serve immediately and enjoy. Optionally, substitute the gin with an equal measure of rye whiskey for a richer, spicier variation (Cynar Rye).
Tools & serving notes
If you prefer a slightly less bitter profile, increase sweet vermouth to 1.25 oz and reduce Cynar to 0.75 oz. For a longer drink, serve in a Collins glass with soda water on the side.
