Cinquenta/Cinquenta Cocktail

Method

Cinquenta/Cinquenta Cocktail

1

Prepare glass (optional salted rim)

If you prefer a salted rim, pour the coarse or smoked salt onto a small plate. Moisten the rim of a chilled coupe or martini glass with a lime wedge and dip the rim into the salt to coat. Set the glass aside in the refrigerator or freezer to chill while you build the cocktail.

2

Combine ingredients

Add the silver tequila (1.5 oz), reposado tequila (1.5 oz), fresh lime juice (0.75 oz), fresh grapefruit juice (0.5 oz), Cointreau (0.5 oz), agave syrup (0.5 oz), and 2 dashes of orange bitters into a cocktail shaker.

3

Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with about 1 cup of fresh ice. Seal and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosted and the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted.

4

Strain

Discard any ice from the chilled glass if you used ice to chill it. Double-strain the shaken cocktail through a fine-mesh strainer into the prepared chilled coupe or martini glass to remove small ice shards and pulp for a silky texture.

5

Garnish and serve

Express the oils of a grapefruit twist over the surface of the drink by holding the twist over the glass and giving it a quick snap so the oils spray onto the cocktail. Rub the twist around the rim if desired, then drop it into the drink or rest it on the rim. Serve immediately.
