Method
Prepare Coffee Base
Brew 2 oz of very strong espresso or dark roast coffee. While still hot, stir in 1 tsp demerara or brown sugar until fully dissolved. Transfer to a warmed heatproof serving glass or small carafe.
Assemble Alcohol & Infuse
Warm and Bloom (recommended)
In a small metal measure or heatproof mixing glass, combine 1.5 oz dark rum, 0.5 oz coffee liqueur, 0.25 oz orange curaçao and 1/8 tsp vanilla extract. Warm gently by placing the measure in a shallow bath of hot water for 20–30 seconds — do not boil. Warming helps meld flavors and slightly softens the alcohol edge.
Pour the warmed spirit mixture slowly into the hot sweetened espresso. Stir gently once to integrate, taking care not to cool the drink too much.
Finish & Garnish
Express the orange peel over the surface of the drink to release oils, then either drop the peel in or run it around the rim and rest it on the glass. Float 3 whole coffee beans on top for aroma and presentation. If desired, grate a small pinch (about 1/8 tsp) of fresh nutmeg over the top.
