Chapati Ingredients
Method
Chapati Preparation
Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt. Gradually add water and mix until the dough comes together. If using, add oil for extra softness.
Knead the Dough
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Cover it with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
Divide and Roll
After resting, divide the dough into small balls (about the size of a golf ball). Roll each ball into a flat circle about 6-8 inches in diameter, using a rolling pin.
Cook the Chapati
Heat a tava or skillet over medium-high heat. Place the rolled chapati on the hot surface. Cook for about 30 seconds on one side until small bubbles appear, then flip it over. Cook for another 30 seconds, pressing gently with a spatula until it puffs up. Flip again if necessary to ensure even cooking.
Keep Warm
Remove the chapati from the skillet and keep it warm in a covered container. Repeat the process for the remaining dough.
