Lasso's sangria consists of red wine, triple sec, orange juice, simple syrup, fresh fruits and a splash of sprite. Also available with white wine.

In a large pitcher (1.5–2 quart capacity), pour the entire bottle of red wine, add 1/4 cup triple sec, 1/2 cup fresh orange juice, and 1/4 cup simple syrup. Stir gently to combine.

Combine liquids

Taste the mixture and adjust sweetness: add up to 2 tablespoons more simple syrup if you prefer sweeter sangria (remember flavor will mellow after chilling and when soda is added).

Wash all fruit. Thinly slice the orange and half lemon (if using) into rounds; remove any seeds. Core the apples and cut into 1/2-inch cubes or wedges. Hull and halve large berries.

Prepare fruit

Add all prepared fruit to the pitcher with the wine mixture. Use a long spoon or muddler to gently press a few times on some of the fruit (especially citrus and apples) to release juices and essential oils, but do not fully puree — you want pieces, not pulp.

For best flavor, cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably 4–12 hours. This maceration lets fruit flavors infuse the wine. If short on time, refrigerate 30–45 minutes.

When ready to serve, taste again and adjust: add a splash more triple sec (1–2 tablespoons) for additional orange aroma, or a tablespoon of simple syrup if it needs sweetness.

Finish and serve

Add 1 cup chilled Sprite (or another lemon-lime soda) to the pitcher and stir gently to preserve bubbles. If you prefer a less sweet or less fizzy sangria, substitute club soda or tonic water and reduce the syrup by 1–2 tablespoons.

Fill glasses with ice (about 1 cup per glass). Using a slotted spoon, distribute fruit into individual glasses and pour sangria over the ice, making sure each glass gets some fruit. Garnish with a mint sprig if desired.

Serve immediately. Leftover sangria (without ice) can be refrigerated up to 48 hours; add fresh soda and ice just before serving to retain effervescence.

To make white sangria instead, substitute the bottle of red wine with a chilled bottle of dry white wine (same quantity). Follow all other steps the same; consider using lighter fruits such as green apple, pear, peaches, white peach slices, and citrus. Reduce the simple syrup by 1–2 tablespoons if the white wine is fruitier.
