Method
Prep & Rim
Salt the glass
Run the lime wedge around the outside rim (top edge) of a rocks glass or old-fashioned glass to wet the rim. Spread the salt on a small plate and gently press and rotate the wet rim into the salt to coat. Tap gently to remove excess. Set the glass aside.
Mixing
Build and shake
Add the blanco tequila (2 oz), fresh lime juice (0.5 oz), and simple syrup (0.5 oz) into a cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice (about 4-6 medium cubes). Shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled and the shaker is frosty.
Strain over fresh ice
Fill the salted rocks glass with fresh ice (enough to nearly fill the glass). Strain the shaken tequila-lime-syrup mixture over the ice.
Top with grapefruit soda
Top the drink with chilled grapefruit soda (about 3 oz). Gently stir once or twice with a bar spoon to combine — avoid over-stirring to keep soda effervescence.
Garnish & Serve
Garnish with the lime wedge on the rim and optionally a grapefruit wheel or twist floated on top. Serve immediately with a short straw. Sip and enjoy the balance of salty rim, bright lime, and refreshing grapefruit.
