Spicy Margarita Cocktail

Method

Spicy Margarita Cocktail

1

Muddle jalapeño

In a cocktail shaker, add 3 jalapeño slices. Muddle gently 6–8 times to release oils and heat without pulverizing the pepper (reduce to 1–2 muddles if you want very mild spice).

2

Add liquids

To the shaker with muddled jalapeño, add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 0.75 oz orange liqueur, 0.5 oz agave syrup, and 0.5 oz fresh grapefruit juice (if using).

3

Shake with ice

Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold.

4

Double-strain

Using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh (or a fine julep strainer), double-strain the mixture into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice (or one large ice cube). Double-straining removes jalapeño bits for a smooth cocktail while keeping flavor.

Garnish & Rim

5

Prepare rim

On a small plate, combine 1 tsp kosher salt and 0.5 tsp smoked paprika or chili powder. Run the lime wedge around the glass rim, then dip the rim into the spice-salt mixture to coat evenly.

6

Finish and garnish

Place a thin jalapeño wheel on top of the drink or slide it onto the rim. Optionally add a lime wedge. Serve immediately.
